Coronavirus Associated Interactome

This is a resource centered on human protein-protein interactions (PPIs) related to human proteins that may be involved during SARS-COV-2 infection, or viral infections in general. This website is an extension to Wiki-Pi in that it additionally presents novel PPIs predicted using HiPPIP computational model that we published previously.

We believe these PPIs will advance biological discovery related to SARS-COV-2 viral infection, and more generally any viral infections. The novel PPIs presented here are believed to be highly accurate based on experimental validations carried out previously on >15 selected PPIs, all of which were shown to be true PPIs, as well as based on computational validations. Notably, the discovery of the role of OASL in recognizing flu viral DNA and then activating RIG-I immunity pathway was achieved based on prediction by this computational model (Immunity 2014). Other translational results are shown in the image below.

The website will have functionality to retrieve interactions effectively, through simple queries such as associations to diseases or pathways, or complex queries conditioned on annotations of one or both proteins in the interaction. We propose to update the backend database once a month to reflect recently-assembled annotations of the proteins. Each interaction will be provided with automatically updated annotations of individual proteins from databases such as Gene Ontology, KEGG, REACTOM, Pubmed2ENSEMBL, and DrugBank. Most importantly, we will enable “wiki-style” capabilities to allow registered users to discuss the PPIs, especially the novel PPIs that hold a potential for translational impact.
